I would say depends on if chiefs armour can take a gauss shot, if so chief takes 9/10, if not would say 50/50, here's reasoning:Doomguy can't use BFG on chief, in game it says it works as weaponised Argent energy which specifically seeks out sources of a argent/hell energy (cant remember which) but point is thats demons. So it doesnt work with the whole room clearing thing on non-demons (chief), to hurt chief doomguy needs a direct hit with a slow moving projectile, and even then we dont know if it does any dmage on chief (dont think doomguy takes splash damage from BFG so I would say no).I think the best weapon doomguy could use is the gauss cannon, which im 50/50 on whether chief be able to tank a single hit.Chief on other hand would prob be best with a sniper, doomguy is strong and fast but I doubt his armour could have him take a headshot from a halo sniper and survive. Also doubt either could dodge, and since one is a cyborg super soldier and the other seems to be a god or incarnation of war at this point, also doubt either would miss.If chief can take a shot chief should win pretty easy, both shoot eachother, doomguy dies, chief lives, if not its whoever is a fraction faster which tbh I have no clue and there no feats to suggest this, them killing each other simultaneously is something I can totally see happening in fact. I think the Master Chief takes it due to feats, base stats, and the nature of his enemies.
The Covenant seems to be more intelligent than the demons, so I think chief has more experience with smart enemies. Also I couldn't find anything saying the Doom Marine has enhancements and the chief's spartan II enhancements are pretty damn impressive, so at base stats he should be the better contestant.
As for the feats I mentioned, I'm sticking to the games and the first book Fall of Reach. So he blows up an ancient hyper intelligent weapon. Has an entire forum of aliens run away from him screaming 'DEMON!' Flips vehicles over with one hand. Has been going on covert missions as black ops since he was like 13 or 14. Hasn't yet met an enemy with weapons he can't figure out or destroy on first contact. Plus a lot of other stuff, but bottom line, I think chief at the very least 7/10.
The in game lore (These weird demon runes) give information stating that the Doom Slayer is a very old warrior who survived armageddon, and seeks revenge on demons. I believe Doom4 is a continuation of the original, where he's been in stasis for a while, and in order to do that the Demons needed to put him in a sarcophagus held down with steel straps to keep themselves safe.
They instinctively protect the site lest he be released. They cannot kill him and have failed in all attempts. He has been killing demons for eons, and they fear him across hell, and have his name carved into tablets etc.The suit is nearly impervious to any damage (according to in game lore). He picks up capsules of argent energy, and can take about 15 or so to power himself up (extra health etc). Each of these contains as much power as a Nuclear reactor outputs over a 12 month period. He carries heaps of weapons simultaneously, all of which are pretty equivalent to anything the Chief has access too.He can also pick up powerups, which are common anywhere that he encounters a boss. Perhaps he gets haste/invulnerability/beserk/quad damage as well. What you just linked are all fan-calcs, which we don't consider as credible sources. For the first one, even if we believe all of their calcs to be true and that he is that fast, does it really matter when chief can kill him in a few punches?
And Chief is really fast too, spartans can go to 0-60 in a few seconds. And the second one about fall-damage, that one is just grasping for straws. They are trying to count the bytes of game data, of all things, to justify their claim. Add that on to the fact that they try and use the NLF of Doomguy not taking fall damage from the normal game, so he obviously can't take damage from any height ever, it's clear the second one is even more non-sensical than the first one. The calculations for the speed are valid give or take a few percent based on how accurate they have his height, the fact that their movement speed is on par is absolutely matters, especially in the bonus round. The second feat I agree is dodgy since it relies on hardware limitations (they're not really 'counting bytes' though), it is absolutely not NLF however as he only claims the feat which can occur within the game engine he doesn't try to claim this means Doomguy is able to fall infinite distance. I would personally put this feat somewhere around Master Chief being able to flip a scorpion tank one handed in reliability. How is that a stupid argument?
In my comment I worked through why each feat either isn't a game changer or is false. The first one doesn't matter because Chief is also that fast. The second one, counting the bytes of data in the game to calculate a height, and then applying a NLF on fall damage to that height to say that he can fall two kilometers without any damage is too much of a stretch and shouldn't be considered as an actual feat.I don't have any specific source from the creators of the game saying that doomguy can't survive a fall from 2 km or that he can't run 57 mph because those things are fan-calced from random stuff like the game bytes. And you don't need a WOG source to tell that something has faulty logic.EDIT: STOP DOWNVOTING THE GUY. If you have a problem with his argument, tell him in the comments. Downvoting him doesn't prove that he's wrong and you're right, show him why you think you're right. Chief is fast but he can't run indefinitelyCorrect.
However, he doesn't need to run for several hours or even 10 min to beat DoomguySorry, but burden of proofI don't need a WOG statement by the developers to tell you that the logic is flawed. There is no 'burden of proof' here about this feat when I just explained to you how the way they derived the feat is flawed. That's like saying because there is no evidence the government is NOT lizard people, then they all MUST be lizard people because there is no evidence to the contrary.EDIT: STOP DOWNVOTING THE GUY. If you have a problem with his argument, tell him in the comments. Downvoting him doesn't prove that he's wrong and you're right, show him why you think you're right.
We’re sharing what games are trending in our own personal zeitgeist in this week’s edition of We’re Just PlayingSo how’s everyone doing? It’s understandable if you’re not.
Even if you are holding it together, sometimes the nervous/negative/hostile energy of others can drag you down. That’s why we all need our outlets. My outlets have always been writing (mostly for myself before I started working here 8 months ago) and gaming. So I find something I love and I immerse myself in it.– Johnny Malloy Collin HendersonFirstly, an update from last week. I managed to finish Spirit Hunter: NG, so here’s a mini-review. First of all, I was horribly wrong about what the eponymous NG means, as it does not stand for No Good. It actually ties pretty heavily into the game’s narrative.
Don’t know where I got that initial impression from. Second, this was a really good sequel, in that it was a fairly significant improvement to the original. One of the issues I had with the original is that many of the spirits felt rather gimmicky, which undermined the more horrific nature of the story. For instance, one of the late game ghosts was a woman with a bunch of different animal body parts that she uses to attack people.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the April 3-4, 1974 tornado outbreak - one of the worst tornado outbreaks to ever affect the U.S. Dubbed the 'Super Outbreak', at least 148 tornadoes struck 13 states from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes over a 16 hour period from the afternoon of April 3, 1974 into the early morning hours of April 4, 1974. Tornado outbreak april 3 1974. The April 3-4, 1974 Super Outbreak affected 13 states across the eastern United States, from the Great Lakes region all the way to the Deep South. In all, 148 tornadoes were documented from this event, of which 95 were rated F2 or stronger on the Fujita scale and 30 were F4 or F5. The 1974 Super Outbreak was the second-largest tornado outbreak on record for a single 24-hour period, just behind the 2011 Super Outbreak. It was also the most violent tornado outbreak ever recorded, with 30 F4/F5 tornadoes confirmed. From April 3 to 4, 1974, there were 148 tornadoes confirmed in 13 U.S. States and the Canadian province of Ontario. In the United States, tornadoes struck Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, Virgin.
It was rather goofy. In NG the spirits still have designs that tie in directly to their horrific back stories, but they all remain rather disturbing throughout, including one in the late game that channels the awesome Legion design from the Castlevania series. The spirits all manage to be legitimately disturbing pretty consistently through the game’s run time. Also like the first game, their back stories tend to be genuinely horrifying, with them touching on some extremely dark subject matter, but it does so rather elegantly.
The word praetorian is derived from the Latin 'praetor', a prestigious title granted by the government of Ancient Rome to men occupying in one of two official positions: the commander of an army or an elected magistrate. The Roman Praetorian Guards were the personal bodyguards of Roman emperors. Concept ArtTrivia.
One of the spirits you confront, an abducted young girl, could have come across as exploitative, but it was handled rather well.Speaking of being handled well, I had expressed concern last week that NG would continue the first game’s trend of trying to dole out creepy and pointless fan service, and that I had already gotten an underwear illustration. I’m happy to say, though, that this game shows restraint in that regard. For the most part, the focus is squarely on the storytelling. It mercifully doesn’t try and titillate by putting its female characters in bad situations and providing lewd illustrations of them.
It lends a sense of cohesiveness to the story arcs since there’s nothing in them that take you out of the mood the game builds. It keeps you immersed in the macabre and unnerving world.I would definitely recommend the game to horror Visual Novel fans. The series as a whole has a great hook, with investigating and confronting spirits, and this one was a refinement of everything that worked well about the first game, except now it’s even more creepy and disturbing.Once I beat NG, I moved on to Daemon X Machina, last year’s hit mech game that, through a series of shenanigans, I managed to get for free (no, I didn’t pirate it). I’m only an hour or so in, but I’ve already completed several missions and they’re very enjoyable. The mech strikes a good balance of responsive controls while also feeling weighty. It’s tough to describe, but you know how in the best giant robot movies, the robots just feel huge due to the way they move? Daemon X Machina manages to give the player that feeling while still having nice, tight controls.
I don’t have too many customization options open yet, but I can already tell that it’s going to be a blast fine tuning my mech to have exactly the load out and look that I want. But while the gameplay offers enjoyable, bite-sized action, I am already sick of the story. Exposition is displayed with a simple back and forth between characters, but said characters seem to come and go at will.
There’s a lot of talk of mercenaries, ancient AI (presumably the titular Daemons), and all kinds of other stuff and I just do not give a damn. Character voice acting is grating, and the pre-mission dialogue scenes ramble on for far too long.
I just want to blast some robots, damnit.Lastly, I am ripping and tearing my way through Doom Eternal. I’ll keep this brief, because I wrote up a whole, but at about two-thirds of the way through the game, it’s another brutal good time. Id Software knows how to strike a good balance between being legitimately challenging while still making the player feel like a powerful badass. I’ve gotten most of the weapons, including the ever-present BFG, and they’re all fun to use.
I would like to give a shout out to the game’s sense of humor. For reasons, Doomguy has to get to the core of Mars at one point, so he fires a hole in the planet using the monstrously sized, and appropriately named, BFG 10,000. Then he launches himself out of a cannon. The developers know that the idea of Doomguy is inherently ridiculous, and they play that up more so than in the first game. Even though I still find it odd that the game has such surprisingly in-depth lore, I love that Id Software has managed to give knowing winks to the players. Sure, there’s a story here, but you shouldn’t take it too seriously and instead just have fun.
These little moments of humor, coupled with the wonderfully fast and brutal gameplay, never fail to put a big stupid grin on my face. Johnny MalloyThe question should probably be, “What haven’t I been playing?” since my attention span is quite limited these days. I’m usually tired and drained (physically, emotionally, spiritually) and can only seem to focus on games for tiny bursts before sighing and moving on to something else. However, two games have been the exception, and are currently in heavy rotation on my Switch and PS4.
The Bloodstained games!I have already beaten the Curse of the Moon several times on several different difficultly modes, but I returned to it after getting 50% through Ritual of the Night. There is a certain hidden area in RotN that pays homage to the earlier games in the Castlevania library, and it made me want to replay CotM now that I know these character’s backstories more.I’ve decided that I’m going to do full length reviews on both Curse of the Moon and Ritual of the Night. And yes, I, the master of good/bad/awful puns, will indeed call it “Stainlining the Bloodstained Series.” Stay tuned for that.OK, so what other games am I playing?
I honestly couldn’t tell you much about them, because the only two holding my interest are these two glorious crowdfunded games that impressed me more than I expected.I do still play on the reg. It’s just the perfect game to me. I read in an interview that Edmund McMillen finds it odd that people would still play it after all this time, especially a lunatic like me who has Platinum-ed the main game and all the DLC, but I can’t help it. I see all these other titles in my PS4 and Switch home screen, and more often than not I turn to Isaac, often simply to play the Daily Challenge. And Edmund’s wife, Danielle, still plays it all the time too, so I’m in good company. This game is my comfort zone. It’s my cave, like from Fight Club.
I can turn it on and have whole conversations with myself while I play. I was an only child, so I’ve always had full on convos with myself. We all cope in our own ways.
